Trading psychology test: which emotion is costing you money?
You had a plan and broke it anyway. This free test shows which emotion is behind it, and the one habit to fix first.
Built by Deron Wagner, who has traded for over 25 years. Morpheus Trading Group has taught swing trading since 2002.
Four journal entries. Which one is you?
One for each emotion. Pick the one you’ve written before.
Setup triggered and the plan said buy. I wanted one more confirmation. It ran 4% without me.
Gapped over my buy point. Bought it anyway. My stop is now 6% below me.
Hit my stop. Moved it down a little. Then a little more.
Took a loss at 9:50. Bought again 12 minutes later, double size.
One of these usually runs your trades. The test shows which.
What you see at the end
Your trader type. One of seven profiles, from The Hesitator to The Steady Hand.
Where it costs you. How your leading emotion shows up in your entries, stops and position size.
Your first habit to fix. One habit for your type, ready for your next trade.
Traders with more than 6 months of experience also see which of four stages of emotional control they’re in.
How it works
Answer 12 to 14 questions
Pick what you would actually do, not what you know you should do. It takes about 5 minutes.

Who’s behind the test
Deron Wagner has traded for over 25 years and started Morpheus Trading Group in 2002 to teach swing trading.
The test uses the four-emotion framework from Module 6 of TradeQuest, our IEAC-accredited swing trading course. Fear, greed, hope and regret each need a different fix, so the test points you to the one that applies to you.
“I love the action. I love being engaged. I love the market, I love the challenge. But without controlling that emotion, you're not gonna consistently make gains.”
Deke Bowerman, trial attorney and TradeQuest student
Questions traders ask
What is a trading psychology test?
It's a short set of questions about what you actually do when a trade triggers or moves against you. Your answers show which emotion has the most pull on your decisions.
How long does the test take?
About 5 minutes. If you have traded for less than 6 months, or never, you answer 12 questions. If you have traded for 6 months or more, you answer 14.
Is the test free?
Yes. You enter your name and email on the last screen, and your full result shows on screen right away.
I've traded for years. Will it tell me anything new?
Experienced traders answer questions about their last 10 trades, plus a check on whether the answers and the account results line up. Plenty of traders know their rules and break them anyway. This shows where.
Does it work outside swing trading?
The emotions are the same in any market and on any time frame. The example trades in the test use stocks and swing trading.
How do I stop trading emotionally?
Decide your entry, stop and size before the trade, then follow them. The test shows which emotion is most likely to break that plan for you, so you know where to start.
How do I stop revenge trading?
Before the next trade, ask whether it would be a valid setup if the last trade had never happened. If it would not, wait.
What happens to my email and my result?
We ask for your name and email on the last screen, before your result. Then we send occasional trading lessons from Morpheus Trading Group, and we save your trader type so the lessons fit it. Your individual answers stay in your browser. The test never asks for account numbers or a broker login, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Is this a psychological evaluation?
No. It's an educational self-assessment based on your own answers. It can't diagnose anything or replace a professional.
